Born on 9th February, 1954, he attended Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria,
where he graduated with a B.Sc degree in Accountancy with First Class Honors in
1977. He also obtained MSc degree (Accounting & Finance) in 1980 from the same
University. Between 1981 and 1982, Chief J. O. Omuya was at the Emile Woolf
College of Accountancy London where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ACCA).
Chief J. O. Omuya was a lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
between 1978–1984. He moved to Phoenix Investment Services Ltd, Kaduna before he
was seconded to Gaskiya Textiles Mills Ltd. Kano, between 1986-1988, where he
served as the Assistant General Manager; He also served in that capacity with
the Bank of the North from 1988 to 1991. He joined Savannah Bank of Nigeria PLC
in 1991 and rose to the position of Deputy General Manager before leaving in
1996 to become the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Director of AFIMS Limited
and later the Abuja Resident Partner of Messrs Ma’ajii and co (Chartered
Accountants) with effect from December 2003.
He was conferred with the degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) Honoris Causa
at the maiden convocation of Kogi State University, Anyigba in March, 2005. He
