Assists in design of logical and physical databases, establishing physical
database parameters
Assists in calculating optimum values for database parameters such as amount of computer memory to be used by database
Assists in monitoring database performance such as distribution of records and amount of available memory
Assists in performing databases back up, recovery and archiving
Maintains, enhances, and designs data dictionaries, physical and logical
database models, and performance tuning.
Monitors database performance and space requirements.
Assists in the building, testing, and implementing changes to the databases,
disaster recovery plans, and operations documentation required by
approved Work Requests.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCES REQUIRED
Core Skills
Adequate knowledge of Enterprise Management system
Adequate knowledge of networking – LAN and WAN
In-Depth Knowledge of and experience in major operating systems such as
MS Windows 2000/2003, Unix Solaris, Linux etc
In-depth knowledge of relational database management system (RDBMS)
especially Oracle database
In-depth knowledge of database planning and sizing
Working knowledge of data modelling
Working knowledge of data mining, data warehousing
In-depth knowledge of storage and archiving technology
Adequate knowledge of architecture environments
Generic Skills
Good written and oral communication ability
Action planning, Motivating, Analytical mind and strong problem-solving capabilities
Ability to work independently in a highly dynamic environment with minimum supervision
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
A first degree or HND in Computer Science and computer related disciplines (Computer Engineering, Computer with Economics/ Mathematics, Management Information Systems and Electrical/Electronics Engineering)
Membership of professional management or information systems bodies is an added advantage e.g. NIM, NCS, CPN
