International Conference/Annual Micro
Entrepreneurship Promotion Award.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in collaboration with the National Organizing Committee (NOC) on the International Year of Micro Credit will hold an International Microfinance Conference from 14th to 15th December, 2006. The theme of the Conference is “The Challenges of Microfinance Intermediation in an Emerging Economy”. Participants would be drawn from the World Bank, regional development banks, central banks, international development organizations, members of the diplomatic corps, government agencies and organs, deposit money banks, microfinance institutions, microfinance/community banks and cooperative societies. The Conference will take place at the Shehu Yar Adua International Conference Centre, Abuja, Nigeria.

Beginning in 2006, the Bank will, under its programmes and schemes, recognize various categories of persons/institutions that have distinguished themselves in various facets of entrepreneurship development in Nigeria. The Award which commences in year 2006 will be an annual event and this year’s edition will take place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja on the night of 15th December, 2006. The award categories are as follows:

1. Farmers

  • Best National Farmer of the Year under the Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund (Arable Crops)
  • Best National Farmer of the Year under the Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund (Tree Crops)
  • Best National Farmer of the Year under the Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund (Livestock)
  • Best National Farmer of the Year under the Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund (Fisheries)

II. Entrepreneurs

  • Best National Entrepreneur of the Year: Small and Medium Enterprises Equity Investment Scheme Clients.
  • Best Entrepreneur (Most Innovative Product): To encourage market penetration among entrepreneurs.
  • Best Entrepreneur (Micro Business Model): To encourage innovative business models among entrepreneurs.
  • Best Entrepreneur (Employment Generation): To encourage entrepreneurs to employ more people.
  • Best Entrepreneur (Export): To encourage entrepreneurs to explore foreign markets.
  • Best National Entrepreneur of the Year: Clients of Microfinance Institutions.
  • Best Entrepreneur (Most Marketed Product).
  • Best Entrepreneur (Micro Business Model).
  • Best Entrepreneur in Employment Generation (Annual Increase).
  • Best Entrepreneur (Export).

III. Governors

  • Best Governor: Agricultural Financing under the ACGSF
  • Best SMEEIS Support Governor (Industrial Clusters/parks Development).
  • Best Microfinance Support Governor (provision of 1% loanable fund to microfinance banks).

IV. Local Government Chairmen

  • Best LGA Chairman: Agricultural Financing under the ACGSF (General)
  • Best SMEEIS Support LGA Chairman (Industrial Clusters Development)
  • Best Microfinance Support LGA Chairman (provision of 1% loanable fund to microfinance banks).

V. Universal Banks

  • Best Bank: Agricultural Financing under the ACGSF (General).
  • Best Bank: Agricultural Financing under the ACGSF (Tree Crops).
  • Best SMEEIS Support Bank.
  • Best SMEEIS Support Venture Capital Company.

VI. Best Microfiance Banks

  • Most Efficient Microfinance Bank (based on indices such as financial, operating, self sufficiency, Portfolio at Risk, Outreach etc).

VII. Donors

  • Best Donor support in Capacity Building
  • Best Donor in Microfinance Institution Building.
