JOB ROLE: DATA CENTRE ANALYST (DCA)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates physical changes to computer databases; and installs, tests and implements physical databases, applying knowledge of database management system
  • Designs logical and physical databases, establishing physical database parameters
  • Calculates optimum values for database parameters such as amount of computer memory to be used by database
  • Specifies user access levels for segment of one or more data items such as insert, replace, retrieve or delete data.
  • Specifies which users can access databases and what data can be accessed by user
  • Tests and correcting errors and refining changes to database
  • Monitors database performance such as distribution of records and amount of available memory
  • Implements databases back up, recovery and archiving functions and routines and ensures the integrity of the database
  • Writes program specifications for database loads and cross-platform activities.
  • Maintains, enhances, and designs data dictionaries, physical and logical database models, and performance tuning.
  • Develops instructions for operations domain to perform data dictionary back-up and recovery.
  • Provides instructions to operations for routine maintenance and support tasks. Provide second tier support in case of problems outside the scope of operations personnel.
  • Monitors database performance and space requirements.
  • Performs or supervises performance tuning. Builds, tests, and implements changes to the databases, disaster recovery plans, and operations.

SKILL AND COMPETENCES REQUIRED

Core Skills

  • Adequate knowledge of Enterprise Management system
  • Adequate knowledge of networking – LAN and WAN
  • In-Depth Knowledge of and experience in major operating systems such as MS Windows 2000/2003, Unix Solaris, Linux etc
  • In-depth knowledge of relational database management system (RDBMS) especially Oracle database
  • In-depth knowledge of database planning and sizing
  • Working knowledge of data modelling
  • Working knowledge of data mining, data warehousing
  • In-depth knowledge of storage and archiving technology
  • Adequate knowledge of architecture environments

Generic Skills

  • A fair knowledge of banking especially central banking
  • Good written and oral communication ability
  • Action planning, Motivating, Analytical mind and strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to work independently in a highly dynamic environment and work under intense pressure.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

  • First degree or HND in Computer Science and computer related disciplines (Computer Engineering, Computer with Economics, Computer with Mathematics, MIS & Electrical/ Electronics.
  • Post Graduate Degree in management is an added advantage.
  • Membership of professional management or information systems bodies is
    required e.g. NIM, NCS, CPN,

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 4 years experience in an IT function, 2 years of which must have been spent in data centre operations
